I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Psalm 32:8

Our verse (psalm 32:8) for today’s daily devotional is appropriate for anyone seeking guidance and direction from God, and for anyone who desires to follow God’s will for their life. This year, this is exactly what we need.

See, the verse is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving, sung by King David after he had repented of his sins and experienced forgiveness and restoration from God. David was therefore reflecting on the joy and peace that he has experienced as a result of God’s mercy and grace. May God also have mercy on us and give us His grace.

Psalm 32:8 is a promise from God to guide and instruct us in the way that we should go, and to watch over us with his loving care. It’s a reminder to fear not because God is always with us, and we can trust in his faithfulness and his guidance as we navigate the ups and downs of life.

David, although a leader of the Israelites and a powerful warrior, struggled with sin, and that was a rebellion against God. Despite his flaws, he is remembered in the Bible as a man after God’s own heart, and as a model of faith and repentance. What are you also doing about your sins? 

It’s my prayer that you apply this to your life by being reminded to seek guidance and direction from God and to trust in his loving care and faithfulness. He is a source of encouragement and inspiration when we are facing difficulty or uncertain circumstances, of any type and form, and He can help us to find peace and rest in God’s presence.

Reflection: 

As we consider our own experiences in the past, we can think about the ways in which God has led and guided us, and the ways in which he has watched over us with his loving care.

Let us then consider our level of trust in God, and pray for the grace and strength to trust in him more fully, even in the midst of difficult and uncertain circumstances.

Prayer for guidance and direction

Dear Lord Almighty, 

I come to you today seeking guidance and direction for my life. I know that you are the Creator of the universe and that you have a plan and purpose for my life. I trust in your wisdom and your guidance, and I ask that you would lead me on the path that you have for me.

I pray that you would give me clarity and understanding about what I have to do and what not to do, as I seek to follow you. Help me to see your divine hand at work in my life, so that I will recognize the opportunities and challenges that you have placed before me.

I ask that you would open my spiritual eyes to see the things that are most important, and to prioritize my time, resources, and energy in a way that is pleasing to you.

I pray that you would give me the courage and strength to follow wherever you lead me, even when it is difficult or uncertain. I know that you are with me always and that you will never leave me nor forsake me.

Help me, my Father, to trust in your goodness, kindness, and your faithfulness, and to follow you with all my heart.

Thank you for your guidance and direction, Lord. I trust in you and your plans for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
