Anchor Bible verse of the day

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.

Psalm 37:23-24 (NKJV)

Being humans with flaws, Psalm 37:23-24 teaches us that we can find solace in the knowledge that God is actively watching over us and preventing a total fall. He gently encourages us, picking us up when we fall, and guiding us back to our feet.

The central theme in Psalm 37:23-24

  • God’s unwavering support: It emphasizes the reliability of God’s guidance and His constant presence in our lives.

Instances where the believer might be imperfect

  • Sin: We still battle sin despite our best efforts. We could succumb to temptation, commit errors, and fall short of God’s ideal standards. (Romans 3:23)
  • Weaknesses and shortcomings: Each of us has flaws or areas where we fall short. Our knowledge, skills, personality, or religion can be the root of the problem. We are only human, thus we have limitations and shortcomings. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • Doubts and struggles: As Christians, we could go through periods of uncertainty, doubt, and difficulty as we navigate our religion. We could struggle with personal problems, tough situations, or questions about God. (Mark 9:24)
  • Incomplete understanding: We have a limited comprehension of God’s ways and what He has written. It’s possible that we don’t fully understand His intentions or the breadth of His truth. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Reflection on You’re Perfectly Imperfect

As Christians, we frequently experience conflict between our desire to live holy lives and the truth of our flaws (Romans 7:15-20). We make an effort to follow Christ totally, but we make mistakes and lose our footing (1 John 1:8-9). It’s critical to keep in mind that we are “Perfectly Imperfect” in the eyes of our merciful and loving God throughout these trying times (Ephesians 2:8-9).

This thought serves as a reminder that God’s love and acceptance do not need perfection. Instead, God’s grace is made manifest in all its glory via our flaws (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). God uses our shortcomings and failings to show us His steadfastness and power in our life (Psalm 103:13-14). Knowing that God’s strength is made perfect in our weaknesses gives us consolation (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We could go through problems, doubts, and imperfect comprehension as we go through life.

However, God invites us to rely on Him in our flaws, knowing that His grace is adequate and that His power is made perfect in our frailty (Philippians 4:13). We are reminded that it is through Christ who strengthens us that we may accomplish anything (Philippians 4:19).

Let us approach God in humility and dependency while embracing our flaws. May we find comfort in His forgiveness, hope in His assurances, and direction in His Word (Psalm 32:5; Psalm 119:105). And while we negotiate the highs and lows of our spiritual path, may we show the same mercy and compassion to those who are also “Perfectly Imperfect” (Matthew 7:12).

Keep in mind that God accepts us as we are, warts and all. He walks with us and changes us day by day because He understands our hearts (Psalm 139:23-24). Accept your flaws, give them to God, and let His grace work in you to make you the person He has called you to be (2 Corinthians 5:17).
