As you wind down for the night, take a moment to reflect on how God calls us to cherish people by loving, encouraging, and valuing them just as He loves us.
Key Verses:
I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.
– John 13:34-35 (AMP)
Winding Down with God’s Love
As the day comes to an end, take a moment to reflect: How did you show love today? Did you cherish the people God has placed in your life?
In the stillness of the evening, God calls us to examine our hearts, to remember that love is not just an emotion but an action: a commitment to value, honor, and care for others.
Jesus set the perfect example of love, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and selflessness. His command in John 13:34-35 is not only a suggestion but a defining mark of our faith.
Meaning, when we cherish others, we reflect Christ’s heart.
Did You Build Up or Tear Down?
In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (AMP), we are encouraged to “continue to encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.”
Before you sleep, consider:
- Did your words today bring encouragement or discouragement?
- Did you listen with patience or rush through conversations?
- Did you take a moment to appreciate those around you?
Cherishing people means seeing them as God sees them — precious, worthy, and deeply loved.
It also means showing grace, just as Christ has shown grace to us.
A Heart That Holds Others Close
As you prepare to rest, let Colossians 3:12-14 (AMP) guide your heart:
Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s chosen ones (His own picked representatives), who are purified and holy and well-beloved by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feelings, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, and patience (which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper). Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has (freely) forgiven you, so must you also (forgive). And above all these (put on) love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness (which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony).
As you lay down tonight, ask God for a heart that values others, for patience in moments of frustration, and for the wisdom to cherish the people He has placed in your life.
Evening Reflection to Cherish People
- Who made an impact on your life today? Have you thanked them?
- Is there someone you need to forgive or show grace to?
- How can you be more intentional in cherishing others tomorrow?
Night Prayer
Dear Father, as I close my eyes tonight, I thank You for the people You have placed in my life. Help me to cherish people, and love them as You love me.
Forgive me for any moments today when I failed to show kindness, patience, or encouragement. Fill my heart with a love that cherishes, values, and uplifts others.
May I wake up tomorrow with a renewed heart, ready to reflect Your love in all interactions!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Rest in His Love
Tonight, as you sleep, rest in the assurance that God cherishes you. Let His peace fill your heart, and may you wake up refreshed, ready to share His love again.
Good night, and God bless!
