» Thursday, 19th January 2023 | I Stand In The Gap Daily Devotional | God’s protection for my family
Yesterday’s daily devotional theme was “Navigating and Overcoming the Schemes of Satan“ and today’s is about God’s protection for your family.
No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment, You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.
Isaiah 54:17
By this verse, we are reminded of the incredible promise of God’s protection for our families. The verse speaks of the power of God to protect us from harm, and to condemn any weapon or tongue that rises against us. It reminds us that as servants of the Lord, we have the heritage of righteousness, and that it is from God.
Themes of Isaiah 54:17:
- God’s protection: The verse promises that no weapon formed against us shall prosper and that God will protect us from harm. This theme highlights the protection and security that God provides for His servants.
- God’s condemnation: The verse states that every tongue that rises against us in judgment shall be condemned. This emphasizes the power and authority of our God to judge and condemn those who oppose us, His people.
- Heritage of righteousness: The verse also states that “this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord”. This emphasizes the righteousness that God provides to His servants and the blessings thereof.
- God’s sovereignty: Isaiah 54:17 concludes with the statement “And their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. This underlines the sovereignty of God, reminding us that He is the source of all righteousness, of provision, and protection.
- Trust in God: Finally, our anchor verse implies trust in God and reliance on His protection, guidance, and provision. This encourages us to put our faith in Him and to wholeheartedly rely on Him.
Background of Isaiah 54:17:
It’s worthy of note that the book of Isaiah is attributed to the prophet Isaiah. My research tells me he was active during the reigns of four different kings of Judah in the 8th century BC.
See, the book of Isaiah is divided or can be divided, into two sections. Chapters 1 through 39, contain mainly historical and biographical material, and chapters 40 through 66, contain mainly prophetic utterances.
Isaiah 54:17, our anchor verse for today’s devotional is part of the second section and is specifically, within the context of “Isaiah’s future prophecy”, where the prophet provides a message of hope and restoration to the people of Judah.
At the time the message was given, their nation was facing destruction due to their unfaithfulness to God.
So here, Isaiah is reassuring the people that despite the destruction that they were facing, God’s protection and provision would remain with them. He thus tells them to put their total trust in God and rely on His protection and guidance.
This Beloved is a powerful reminder of the steadfast love and protection that God offers to those who are faithful to Him, even in the face of difficult circumstances.
Reflecting on Isaiah 54:17
In the current Christian dispensation, Isaiah 54:17 serves as a powerful reminder of the protection and provision that God offers to His people, His family. The verse reminds us that no weapon formed against us shall prosper and that God will protect us from harm.
This is especially relevant in today’s world, where families are constantly facing challenges and difficulties, many personal struggles within the family unit, financial hardships, absent fathers, difficult relationships, broken homes, single parenthood, etc.
Also, as servants of the Lord, we’re reminded that we have the heritage of righteousness, which comes with the blessings of God’s protection and provision. This heritage of righteousness is something that we can claim as Christians, knowing that we are covered by the righteousness of Jesus Christ. So, the Believer can claim it too for the family.
In addition, the verse encourages us, as families, to put our trust in God and to rely on His protection and guidance, even in the face of difficult circumstances, for our God is sovereign and in control of all things, and we can trust Him to guide us on the right path.
Similar verse
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills, From whence comes my help?
Psalm 121:1-2
2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
This verse reminds us of the protection and provision that God offers to His people, including your family and mine. The Psalmist is “looking to the hills for help, but he realizes that his true help comes from the Lord, who is the creator of the universe”. This verse is a powerful reminder that God is the ultimate source of protection and provision and that we can rely on Him in times of need.
It stresses the sovereignty of God, and reminds us that He is the creator of all things, and that He is in control of all things. It also encourages us to put our unconditional trust in God and to rely on His protection and guidance.
We can trust in God’s promises, and rely on His protection and guidance, even in the face of difficult circumstances.
It also reminds us that God is always with us and that we can always turn to Him for help, no matter what the situation may be. This verse is a powerful encouragement to those who may be facing difficult circumstances and it reminds us that God is always there to help us.
Prayer for God’s protection for my family
Our Father,
I come to you today with grateful hearts, lifting up my family to you. I thank you for the promise of your protection and provision as stated in Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.
Father, I trust in your promise to protect and provide for my family, and I ask for your continued guidance and protection for us. I pray for your hand of protection to be upon my home and family, covering us from all harm and danger. I pray for your provision to meet all our needs, both physical and spiritual.
I also pray for your wisdom and discernment to recognize and resist any schemes of the enemy that may come against my family.
Father, release your protection angels to my family this day and thwart every evil and demonic plan of the enemy against my family. In the name of Jesus, I lift my family members and dip them in the precious Blood of Jesus as a sign of consecration unto you Lord.
Thank you for the heritage of righteousness that we have as your servants, and for the blessings that come with it. I trust in your sovereignty, knowing that you are in control of all things within and without my family.
Thank you for being our refuge and fortress, and for the peace and security that comes with putting our trust in you.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, Amen.
