Yesterday’s daily devotional was on “Forever, God’s Grace Abounds” and today’s is “Protection from Financial Stress”.
Anchor verse of the day
Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22 (NKJV)
Our anchor verse of Psalm 55:22 means that we can cast our burdens on the Lord, and He will sustain us and provide for our needs, even in times of financial stress.
Themes in Psalm 55:22
- Burden-casting: It inspires us to give our burdens to the Lord rather than attempting to carry them on our own.
- Sustenance: It is a promise that when we lay our burdens on the Lord, He will uphold us.
- Righteousness: It is implied that those who live righteously can rely on the Lord’s protection and provision since He promises that He will never allow the righteous to be moved.
- Faith: Instead of being plagued by financial concern, it encourages us to trust in the Lord, have faith in His promises, and throw our burdens on Him.
In summary, the scripture serves as a reminder that we might avoid financial worry by putting our trust in the Lord, releasing our troubles to Him, and depending on His supply and defense.
Background to Psalm 55:22
David is credited with writing Psalm 55, which is categorized as a lament psalm. The author’s agony and sadness over the betrayal of a close friend and trusted partner are expressed in the psalm.
David displays faith in God’s faithfulness and protection even in the midst of his suffering. David realizes in verse 22 that God is his protector and will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:31-33 (NKJV)
According to this scripture, we shouldn’t worry about our material needs because God is aware of them and will meet them if we put our trust in Him.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
These verses teach us not to worry about anything, but to lay our needs before God in prayer, with thanksgiving, and faith that He will meet them. The calmness of God will keep our hearts and minds from worrying and will encourage us to put our reliance on Him rather than on our financial condition.
Reflection on protection from financial stress
God assures us in Psalm 55:22 that when we throw our troubles on Him, He will uphold and guard us. Financial stress is a widespread problem in today’s society that affects many individuals, yet we can find solace and serenity in the knowledge that God is our ultimate protector and provider.
We can turn to God in prayer as we confront financial difficulties, believing that He will provide for us and lead us through trying times. Additionally, we can take actionable efforts and seek smart advice in order to handle our money appropriately.
But in the end, it is our confidence in God’s provision and cares for us that gives us hope and stability, not our bank accounts or financial investments. Even in the midst of financial turmoil, we can find comfort in the awareness that God knows our needs and is constantly working for our good.
We can be confident that God will provide all of our needs, including our financial needs, in a way that is honest and truthful because of the promise of protection from financial stress given in Psalm 55:22.
As Christians, we can rely on God’s supply and ask for His direction in order to make prudent financial decisions that are in line with His plan. We may believe that God will take care of us in His perfect timing and in the way that is best for us; therefore, we don’t need to turn to dishonest or unethical means of obtaining financial assistance.
Let us put our faith in God’s promises and look to Him for direction in all aspects of our lives, including our finances.
Let us pray
Dear God,
We come to you today with our financial worries and sorrows. We admit that despite knowing that you are in charge, we frequently worry and stress over our finances.
We beg your pardon and beg your assistance as we lay our burdens upon you. We are grateful for your assurance that you will uphold us and never allow us to be moved if we throw our weight on you. Knowing that you are dependable and trustworthy, we formally claim this pledge today.
We ask that you watch over and provide for us financially. Help us to take good care of the assets you have given us and to make intelligent and charitable use of them. Help us to glorify you with our finances by guiding us while we work, invest, and spend.
We also pray for those who are struggling financially, whether it be as a result of illness, job loss, or other circumstances. We ask that you meet their needs, ease their pain, and demonstrate your love and care for them.
In the midst of our financial strain, we humbly ask for your calm and fortitude. Allow us to put our faith in you rather than our assets or bank accounts. Remind us of your assurance in Matthew 6:33 that all these things will be added to us if we pursue first your kingdom and righteousness.
May you strengthen our faith in you every day and help us to be a living example of your grace and love to others.
We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior.
Amen.
